Having previously worked in the print trade and in finance in the hospitality industry, Matt and Tina decided to follow their dreams together and now dedicate themselves to dishing up the most authentic and succulent steak frites in Oxfordshire. You can book Gourdans Steak Frites and their amazing vintage 1970s Renaults ‘Arturo and Sabine’ for weddings, private parties and corporate events, so you and your guests can get stuck in to this delicious and authentic European classic!


“With a simple menu, it’s imperative that the quality is outstanding. All our steak is matured in house for a minimum of 21 days. It is then cooked to preference, sliced finely, laid onto a bed of authentic Belgian frites and finally dressed in a choice of our homemade peppercorn, salsa verde or herb butter sauces.”

Tina and Matt, the husband and wife team behind Gourdans Steak Frites, live in Oxford with their family…

“We began trading as a family business and have established and grown our brand predominantly in the Oxfordshire area. Gourdans was created from our desire to start our own business and through our love of food and travel."


After a trip to Belgium and France, Matt and Tina came up with the idea of selling steak frites from a vintage French vehicle…

“Matt stumbled across our original vehicle, Arturo, completely by chance, and bought it the following day! After going to the pub to celebrate the birth of our idea, we happened to be overheard by someone who’s son-in-law was head of sales at our amazing steak supplier, who we’ve used ever since. We then developed a range of knock out sauces and Gourdans was ready to roll!

We asked Matt and Tina if they consider themselves entrepreneurs…

“Our business is our own and we are proud of it, but we can never sit on our laurels as there are so many variables and strong competition. From concept to where we are now, the company has grown naturally with hard graft. We are a small business and have to have a hand in every aspect of it to keep our standards up and to continue to exceed expectations and to progress. If that’s what entrepreneurship is, then yes!”

They spoke to us about the highs…

“We continue to have highlights all the time, working with the likes of Blenheim Palace, feeding and meeting lovely people, working with community projects, the purchase of our second vehicle, Sabine, and of course, working with the amazing team at Feast It!”


And the inevitable lows associated with being a street food trader…

“We are very lucky to have each other to pick things up when times are hard. Anyone working in street food and mobile catering will know what we’re talking about!”


Now for the juicy bit, we asked Matt and Tina to tell us a little bit about their menu…

“To accompany our 21 day matured steak and authentic Belgian frites, we also have a choice of sides, which include herb marinated portobello mushrooms and homemade coleslaw infused with horseradish. Everything on our menu is gluten free and we also offer halloumi as a direct replacement for veggies!”

“We’ve traded all over really… Twickenham 7s, Blenheim Palace Supercards, Thame food festivals, local music festivals including Common in Oxford, numerous weddings, private parties, Christmas festivities and open air cinema events to name a few.”


Finally, we asked Matt and Tina if they have any steak frites making secrets they would be willing to share with us?

“Don’t touch the steak until it releases itself from the pan, rest it at very rare, then enjoy. Alternatively let Gourdans do it for you, all you need do then is choose the vino!”
